As part of the Clubhouse code of standards, if the member wishes to live independently than a program advocating this goal will be created within the clubhouse. This program is the Independent Living Skills (ILS) program. Here is what some of our ILS members have to say about living independently.
The housing unit supports members to live safely and independently in the community, it teaches the skills needed to succesfully maintain the independence within the following components:
- Cooking and meal prep
- Cleaning, laundry, and household management
- Shopping in a natural environments
- Menu planning
- Money and benifit management
- Use of public transportation
- Personal health and hygiene and medication management
- Self-advocacy
- Indepedent recreation
- Medical/dental health
- Community resources and apartment hunting
- Home, personal and community safety
- The ILS staff will help the member become more independent by teaching them how to do the above activities.
