The clubhouse model was conceived over 50 years ago, by Fountain house in New York City as a community of people with disabilities and staff working side- by-side in the running of their club house. The program is first and Foremost a club with rights of their membership, balanced by member responsibilities. Members are expected to run their clubhouse by taking on essential tasks. When the clubhouse is doing well, credit must be given to the membership upon whom the clubhouse is dependent for its survival. A clubhouse sends clear message to its members that they are capable competent, and needed. Work, as a volunteer service within the clubhouse, is the focus of Integrity House.
Three and a half years ago, we moved into our Santa Ana location here at 2043 N Broadway. The members were so excited as they finally had a new clubhouse to call their own after months and months of searching. The building we inherited was in dire need of a makeover. The members got to work on painting and patching the walls, fixing doors and setting up the various units. If you’ve seen our clubhouse lately you know the members were very successful. Every room at Integrity House is a memory for each of our members; a memory of many different projects and duties; a memory of laughs with friends as they renovated their clubhouse. Each one of our members has a hand (and probably a drop or two of sweat) in the beautiful building you see now. What is exciting now is the opportunity to do that again. Lotus House is open! Our Signal Hill location at 999 E. Willow may not be as big as Integrity House, but it still needs that same TLC. The process has already begun with the few members we have there. Each day, new paint goes up. New shelves are put together. New dining room table are set up. It’s beginning to become a clubhouse. As we continue to grow our membership there, more and more changes will happen until the members there have the same kind of pride and admiration that the members here have for their clubhouse. That is what our philosophy is all about. If you would like a tour of either of our clubhouses or more information, please call the Administration Unit.
