When I’m Not Alone Documentary

When I’m Not Alone is a powerful documentary created in 2010 that shares the remarkable story of Sam Durbin.

In his early years, Sam faced unimaginable hardships, including severe abuse, lack of access to education, and time spent in and out of institutions. Labeled a “hopeless case” by doctors, he experienced homelessness and deep isolation.

Everything began to change when Sam found Alliance of Abilities, a supportive clubhouse for people with disabilities in Southern California. There, he learned to read and write, found his voice, and discovered his strength as an advocate.

Sam went on to become a published author and a passionate national spokesperson for disability rights. His story continues to inspire and remind us of the power of community, dignity, and hope.
